Wicca is a polythestic or pantheistic nature based religion. It is the reconstruction of a religion that existed in pre-Christian Europe.
|
It is the oldest new religion in the world! Many people in the craft refer to Wicca as the "Old Religion" because although modern Wicca is just over fifty years old, it's roots run deep. In the late 1940's Gerald Gardner organized the ancient Pagan beliefs of Europe into a religion. Since then Wicca has taken on a life of it's own. There are many different traditions of Wicca including Gardinarian, Alexandrian, Dianic and many others, but these days I believe most Witches follow a more eclectic path, we use what works.

Divinity
Wiccans worship Goddess and the Horned One. She is the triple Goddess of the moon, the Maiden, Mother & Crone. He is the god of the hunt, the son and/or lover of the great Goddess.

Magick
Magick is how we affect change in ourselves and the world around us. It can be as quiet as scrying or as loud as drumming and chanting. It is important to know that magick works! It must always be performed with respect and with the three fold law in mind. Whatever you send out, good or bad will come back to you three times.

The Rede
"An' it harm none, do as thou wilt". This is our one law. If you can live your life without harming anything or anyone (including yourself) then there is no need for countless laws and commandments, is there?

|
Satan
Although many Pagan gods were demonized by the Catholic church during the burning times, Wiccans do not worship any kind of devil. Just as Hades belongs to the Greek pantheon and Set belongs to the Egyptian pantheon, Satan belongs to the Christian family of gods. This "Devil" character was deified in Christian mythology and has no place in Paganism.

Book of Shadows
There is no official "Book of Shadows", but most Witches like to keep a journal of spells and rituals.
